Ten individuals convicted of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.
The court issued suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A longstanding unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's gender.
Their lawsuit states that Owens ignored all credible evidence disproving her claim opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she was a teacher at his secondary school.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
